Vulture obtained a photo, taken at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, above a soundstage on a studio lot in Culver City, of Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz hard at work on the show’s revival. Reached for comment, Hurwitz told them, “I was working in the room with the writing staff. We were discussing the Maeby episode.”

“And it wasn’t just that Leslie won — and Amy Poehler’s face as Leslie absorbs the news is among the best pieces of acting she’s ever done on the show — but that beautiful acceptance speech she gives. We start off with Ben’s perfectly well-written remarks, but then Leslie runs out of his words and starts improvising her own and they’re even more eloquent and perfect and moving. That is why all these people went to the mattresses for her, and that is why we watch “Parks and Rec,” on top of it being insanely funny. I watch too many other TV series (including a much-hyped show on this network whose title rhymes with “rash”) who spend a lot of time telling you why certain characters are awesome, then fail to adequately show you. With Leslie, “Parks” shows you, again and again and again. When you say some shit like “Can people stop making fun of Girls HBO for being all-white and just state that they’re uncomfortable with a female-dominant show already” you are actively removing WoC from the category of women.

BUT WHY IS IT JUST GIRLS BEING ATTACKED FOR THIS? LIKE I GET THAT IT’S A PROBLEM BUT WHY ARE PEOPLE JUST NOW STARTING TO GIVE A SHIT I MEAN HAVE YOU LOOKED AT ALL THE OTHER WHITE WASHED SHOWS OUT THERE? WHY ARE YOU NOT ANGRY ABOTU THOSE SHOWS. If you were aware of anything outside of your little box you would see all of the WOC talking about ALL OF THE SHOWS THAT ARE LIKE THIS. There is so much commentary on the whitewashing of TV. EVERYFUCKINGWHERE.

YOU are just not following people that are talking about these things. You not seeing the commentary on other white dominated shows is no one’s fault but your own.

bam, natalie nails it as always. girls is getting criticized because it’s a new show. every time a brand new white person show or straight person show or dude-dominated show comes up on my dash it gets the same treatment girls is getting right now and continues to get the same treatment throughout its run. the fact that the majority of criticism is coming from women of color, womanists, feminists of color, and some of you are still trying to pretend its misogyny is not cute at all.

girls might have particular reasons for getting criticized (its set in the most diverse city in the world as opposed to, say, the midwest, the creator has made a lot of commentary about women’s representation on television, her responses to criticism have been less than stellar) but honestly the fact that white feminists are just now starting to notice that 99 percent of shows on my dash are getting smart, critical commentary makes me embarrassed to call myself a [white] feminist. let’s start actually caring about all women, not just ones who look like us.
